New Life in a Foreign Country

It takes some time to adjust to the new surroundings and culture while living in a foreign country. For instance you may be enrolled in some study program, you’ll have to face the culture you’ve never experienced before.
There are many reasons and motivations for those who choose to study abroad: learning a foreign language, desire for adventures, an academic experience different from the one you may have in your home country, career building necessity, etc.
Though going abroad for a long period of time seems to be a great adventure let’s not forget about the disadvantages waiting for us. You will say goodbye to everything so dear to you at home – your family, friends and the style of life you led for so many years. You will probably feel sad, thinking over the alternative of staying. Don’t forget to take pictures and contact information of the dare people.
Try to do all your best to become less or more mentally ready for studying abroad. Learn about the culture and traditions of the country where you are going. Of course your school program will provide you with much information about it. But first of all be mentally prepared. That is the most difficult thing! Try to understand the country’s customs, learn its history. What do you know about its national cuisine, language they are speaking, political situation in the country? Try to listen to its popular music.
The Internet is a good source to get the info. But reading books is also very good. Try to talk to those who have been there, ask them as more as possible. Watch the movies. Don’t stop searching! If it is possible, take some course in the culture of the country where you are going. Just imagine that you will see all the exciting places you’ve read so much about.
When you are in the country, the first time won’t be easy for you. But soon you will not only understand much about the local customs and culture aspects, but will become a part of the community. Cross culture is amazing! Have fun in experiencing it!
